Malice Mizer formed in 1992 in Tokyo, Japan. Mana, Közi, Yu~ki, Tetsu, and Gaz, the members of the band at that time,
all had big dreams, to well, make it to the big times. But back then they were still a very underground or unknown band.
About
a year later, Mana, the leader of the band, fired Gaz the drummer and Tetsu the vocalist. Once you hear Tetsu's voice, you
understand exactly why he was fired. It's needless to say he sounds like a dying cow. The band members were obviously in a
desperate situation; they only had two guitarists and a bassist. That's when Kami and Gackt came into play. The band hired
Kami to do drums, and the legendary (or soon to be) Camui Gackt. With the band in a good situation once again, they lit a
spark that would explode into an eternal flame.
In 1996 they released their second album, titled "Voyage" and what
tagged along with that became a cult following. People paid a pretty penny to come to their shows. They also started playing
in larger venues with more exotic stage settings. Then in 1998, they released their third, and by far most popular CD, "merveilles"
which means marvelous in French. People started cosplaying as the member's as well as starting an official fan club. Fans
started paying an even prettier penny to see Malice Mizer live.
However, in 1999, beloved Gackt left the band to pursue
his own musical career. (Basically so he could become a Backstreet Boy). Even though some devoted Gackt fans left with him,
the four remaining members had things still going good and strong for them musically. Little did they know a tragic event
would occurr later that year. That tragic even was Kami, the drummer, dying of a brain hemorrhage. Fans all over the world
came to Japan to grieve for him. Mana, Közi, and Yu~ki released "Shinwa", a memorial CD for Kami. To this day they still have
no replacement drummer, in respect to Kami.
And in this year, 2001, Malice Mizer is still going strong. In the fall
of 2000, they hired the wonderfully talented Klaha, whose voice surely surpasses Gackt's in terms of deepness and sensuality.
Malice Mizer released their fourth CD, "Bara no Seidou" with some of their most gorgeous works to date. They are currently
working on their movie which is debuting in the near future of this fall. They've been through 4 member changes, a tragic
death, and an up and down roller coaster between musical genres tastes.
But on December 12, 2001 Malice Mizer had
come to an end. The band decided to "suspend activities" for a while and pursue solo careers.
